Apparently the Panthers are BIG believers in 'analytics'.  They are in process of hiring a dedicated analytics guy to support the team efforts both on the field and behind the scenes. Joe Person broke the story earlier today.

Quote:"According to Joe Person, the Carolina Panthers are set to hire SumerSports vice president Eric Eager in an ambiguous “analytics role.” Eager previously worked for Pro Football Focus, the somewhat divisive football analytics website. PFF is often simultaneously praised and criticized for their player grades after each game, but the popularity of their advanced statistics cannot be argued."

"Eager has a PhD in mathematical biology (yes, that’s a real thing apparently) from Nebraska, so he definitely has the mathematical background for this analytical role. As far as his football experience goes, he played Division II football at Minnesota State-Moorhead. His journey has seen him transition from a tenured Mathematics professor to now an analytics guy for an NFL team, which is a story that sounds like a Hollywood special."

"Since purchasing the Panthers in 2018, David Tepper has constantly lauded analytics and desperately tried to inject them into his franchise. He has even gone so far as bringing up the analytics regarding specific play calls with previous coaches. With this hire, Tepper continues to show growth as an owner. He has been consistently more hands-off, allowing the “football guys” like Dan Morgan and Brandt Tillis to do their thing. Hopefully Tepper now allows his shiny new “analytics guy” to do his."

Quote:As reported by Joe Person of The Athletic on Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers are planning to hire SumerSports vice president Eric Eager in an analytics role. A new-school addition of sorts, Eager also worked seven seasons at Pro Football Focus—where he served in numerous roles including as a consultant, a senior data analyst and the vice president of research and development.

And according to a number of other experts within the game, the Panthers are getting themselves one heck of a mind . . .

***HERE (at this point) in the article there are no fewer than ten (10) quotes commenting on Joe Person's Twitter Lead...  We can't embed Twitter here on the forum -- so if you're interested you'll have to read the article.***

Tej Seth
@tejfbanalytics
there is no one more deserving of this opportunity than
@ericeager_
. one of the hardest workers in all of sports analytics. rare to find someone who knows ball, stats and how to manage people like him

most people probably don’t know the extent of how many projects he has worked on and how many people he has mentored. carolina is very lucky to be getting all of that ?

Hell yes, @ericeager_.

Panthers got better today.

Congrats, man!

John Ellis is a Panther fan and I respect his opinion.  If he is excited I would say this is good.

Pretty nerdy stuff:
