Hmm … I’m pretty sure we DO have to spend the $17.5M. We picked up Ekwonu’s 5th year option in April last year. That means 2026 is fully guaranteed. Injuries that occur while on official “Panthers business” are covered for 5th year option players. The 5th year option “locked” his contract for this year and next year.
