According to league sources, Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that could threaten his availability the upcoming season. The injury was not a surprise to either the Saints or the 11-year veteran. Both parties are weighing their options, including the possibility of surgery.
Carr’s 2024 season, his second with the Saints, ended prematurely due to a fracture in his non-throwing hand. He also missed time with an oblique injury and played just 10 games. The Saints were 5-12 last season but 5-5 when Carr started, as the veteran passed for 2,145 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions.
The Saints signed Carr to a four-year, $150 million deal in 2023, with $60 million guaranteed. According to OverThe Cap, Carr’s contract is a $20.4 million cap hit for the Saints in 2025 and a $69.2 million cap hit in 2026; the void years on his deal stretch from 2027 through 2029.
The other two quarterbacks on New Orleans’ roster, 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener and 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler, combined to go 0-7 in relief of Carr. Rattler finished 0-6, completing just 57 percent of his passes for 1,137 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions.
New Orleans holds the No. 9 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and four of its nine picks sit in the top 100. The Saints have drafted a QB in four of the last five drafts. Those quarterbacks — Rattler, Haener, Ian Book and Tommy Stevens — are a combined 0-8 in their starts.
Well...seems the Saints are in a pickle and I LOVE IT.!
