"The Panthers confirmed a report that interim general manager Marty Hurney has been placed on paid administrative leave and that the NFL is investigating him under the league's personal conduct policy stemming from a complaint by his ex-wife, Jeannie Hurney. The Charlotte Observer first reported this."

Thanks for the info. I'm not a bit surprised. This is the latest trend. You don't have to be guilty, just there. Being an ex-wife, it's probably about money, revenge, or it may be true. As usual, he will be convicted, before he even gives his side. I'm glad I'm poor and insignificant.

There is a lot of stink on the end of that stick. First she tries to get more alimony in December, then she has these allegations and then she withdraws them...and even the judge says there is no evidence.

If guilty he needs to pay and pay dearly...if not, she needs to pay just as dearly.

Ex-wife.  That's all that needs to be said.   They are some of the most vindictive people there are.  She probably knows Marty was more than likely going to land the new GM job and wants to ruin him.  Sorry, but many ex's, male and female alike, are spiteful towards one another.

It seems very unlikely to me with Mr. Richardson's case going on and a permanent gig for GM on the line that Marty would be going out of his way to harass his ex-wife.

Sad thing is, though this is probably 99% bogus, it very well may disqualify Marty just because of the sigma of #metoo.  That would have been her intent all along, IMO.

FA starts in a month, who will pull the trigger on money being spent or not?

So on Feb 20, we tag or not tag players ahead of FA

Combine the first week of March

FA starts on or around 3/14

Panthers have no new ownership in place as of yet meaning that our direction and remaining personnel are flapping in the wind.  New ownership might wipe the whole plate clean after 2018.  This does not make great candidates want to come here on a possible one year gig.

Meanwhile, Hurney and the NFL have us in a bind.  NFL probably won't have their "investigation" done for a good while.

Yep, we in a mess.

On top of that the owner on his way out fired our GM who wasn't willing to give retiring players obscene contract extensions that were going to hinder our financial flexibility this offseason.

Getts got fired cuz he didn't want to give TD or Olsen extra cash, and even though he hasn't said it yet, Greg has one foot out the door and in an announcer's booth already. Watch Greg, TD, Peppers, and Kalil all retire after next season.......

Silver lining... the team, other owners, and the league are supposed to be making a fairly quick decision on getting the new ownership group in.

I'm no Hurney fan, and was willing to give him benefit of the doubt on learning from his prior mistakes (wasn't sold he had learned after handing TD one of the team's highest cap hits next year but w/e), but I hope that the team is willing to give Hurney a fair shake regarding these allegations. If he's earned the job and this is all bologna, he should be offered the job and help give the new owners more stability.

A multi BILLION dollar corp has a backup plan to a backup plan to a backup plan.   Now what it can't control is a FA's mindset...but they mostly just care about the money and structure anyways.

Wonder why if (as the news reported this morning) that she didn't want to file a report on it, but now she suddenly steps out publicly about it?  It just turns my stomach.  And, as stated, a man is automatically guilty.

And, looking at who they brought in to interview for GM, this doesn't surprise me one bit. I mean, seriously?  "Harasssment"?  :bag:

Note that this was added to that article by David Newton:

David Newton ESPN Staff Writer

The complaint of harassment against Panthers interim GM Marty Hurney by his ex-wife has been dropped and there will be no follow-up hearing. Said Hurney's attorney, Kathi Lucchesi of the initial charges: “This is false. No truth to it. Absolutely fiction. Made up in her mind.” Lucchesi said the next step is to get the Panthers to lift the paid administrative leave Hurney has been placed on by the team.

Yeah hopefully this is one of those things that happens so quietly after the hubbub of the Super Bowl and NBA trade deadline that the media doesn't make a big deal about it. The team should be able to reinstate Hurney since the charges were dropped. There really is no further investigation needed.

Yes, first thing I did was go to espn, and I saw nothing about it. You know they would have reported it. Wonder if Newton was a bit hasty.

I think the NFL is still doing an investigation anyway and he is still on leave.

"NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said the league will investigate Hurney's situation under its personal conduct policy. That investigation will continue even though the complaint has been dropped."

"Lucchesi said the next step is to get the Panthers to lift the administrative leave. She noted her client is "anxious" to get back to work at an important time as teams are evaluating their own talent and preparing for the draft and players from other teams are heading into free agency."

Always wondered how many of the "judges" in sports could stand up to the scrutiny that they put on other people.

That loony needs to be punished just like Marty should be if he was guilty. Getting pretty tired of this BS when it goes both ways.
